El Centro de UCSB
A Home Away From Home
El Centro de UCSB is a communal space dedicated to fostering the emotional and physical enrichment and development of members of marginalized communities. El Centro de UCSB is located on the University of California, Santa Barbara campus in Building #406 by the Davidson Library. El Centro is home to many Chicanx/Latinx, Political, and Multicultural Organizations. There is room for you here, so come be a part of this space!

History of the Space
Community Originated, Community Committed
El Centro was born out of the UCSB Chicanx/Latinx Studies Movement of the 1960s that created curriculum for the field of Chicanx Studies and Equal Opportunity Program (EOP). It housed the first Department of Chicanx Studies & Ethnic Studies ever in all the UC Campuses. This was all in thanks to the El Plan de Santa Barbara, a manifesto written by the Chicanx Coordinating Council on Higher Education.
What We Do
For the UCSB and Isla Vista Community

Community
Stop by Our Center
What we have to offer above all is community. El Centro is made up of a diverse portion of students that usually don't feel comfortable elsewhere on campus. At El Centro you'll meet some of your closest friends and get access to new opportunities. The laid back, welcoming atmosphere of El Centro is accomplished through mutual respect and adhering to El Centro's Community Guidelines.
Study Space
Community Study Rooms
The newly renovated study areas are available for personal use when not booked for a meeting or event. We have 2 study rooms, an activity room, and the War Room that are all available as study space when not otherwise in use.

Meetings
Meeting Space for Orgnaizations
All the areas of El Centro can be booked and utilized for your organization, club, or group. Many social, cultural, and political organizations use our space throughout the year.

Support Us
Being an independent, student ran building has given us an opportunity to create a unique space to share with marginalized communities. It also however has ostracized us from university funding, and so far our building has been maintained by EOP funds. By donating you are preserving a piece of history and the only place that a lot of communities feel safe in.
